TIPS & TRICKS

Below are some tips that you can use with your customers to help them prepare for the colder winter weather. Here are a few ideas on how you can use these tips to add value to your customers or as a prospecting tool for your business:

1. Print out the preformatted tips page and give it to your customers when you show up to give an estimate, to provide services, or mail it along with your invoice if you’ve already finished a job.

2. Email the preformatted tips page to any of your existing customers as a reminder on winterization along with a message that you would be happy to handle their winterization for them, or offer the tips alongside a pre-packaged winterization service where you offer to handle these things for them for a set cost.

3. Offer these tips to local HOA or neighborhood associations for use in their newsletter or to post on their message boards along with your contact information in case residents need help with their plumbing or irrigation projects.

Protect Home Plumbing & Irrigation with 8 Simple Tips

Nobody was prepared for the Texas freeze of 2021. There’s no better time than now to prepare for the next big freeze.
Why prepare?
• Frozen water causes pipes to expand. Even if pipes don’t burst, the ice can cause significant
permanent damage.
• Water in pipes sticks and freezes in tight spaces. This ice causes pipes to burst, leading to water
damage and forcing replacement. Replacements and repairs are expensive.
• By being proactive, you can avoid these issues.

Here are our top 8 recommended ways to protect your irrigation systems this winter:
Tip #1: Disconnect hoses and drain water lines.
Tip #2: Dress up faucets and outdoor pipes using insulation.
Tip #3: Flush toilets in your home, and continue flushing until the water in the tank of the toilet is completely gone. Turn on the faucets in sinks, showers, and bathtubs to completely drain the water.
Tip #4: Circulate warm air. Open cabinet doors beneath the kitchen and bathroom sinks to allow warm air to reach the pipes.
Tip #5: Prevent cold from entering your home in the first place! Keep the garage door closed. It prevents cold air from affecting plumbing on bordering walls.
Tip #6: Insulate pipes. If plumbing runs through exterior walls, crawlspaces, attics, and other uninsulated spaces, then it needs extra protection. Wrap pipes in foam insulation (ideally with a layer of electrical tape underneath).
Tip #7: Use heat cable along pipes before covering with pipe insulation. It provides extra protection in unheated spaces (like a crawlspace, garage, or attic). Insulation isn’t designed to withstand long-term cold temperatures on its own. In fact, insulation could prevent warm air from reaching the pipes if not partnered with heat cable.
Tip #8: Before winter, inspect your home’s exterior. Look for cracks or holes. Fill those imperfections with spray foam insulation and caulking. It helps stop cold air from reaching your pipes.
